The Dragon's Head Blog: Haida Gwaii Participants Demonstrate Taoist Tai Chi™ arts at Queen Charlotte Parade
Participants in Haida Gwaii support the annual Hospital Day in the village of Queen Charlotte. This fundraising effort is one of the largest public events held on our small, remote island located off the north coast of British Columbia. For several years we have had a lot of fun joining the Hospital Day parade along with red-coated Mounties, Scottish pipers, clowns, farm animals, kids, musicians and other community organizations. As the parade winds its way into the community ball park we begin our demo. This has been great exposure for us.
Last year we were awarded ‚The most community oriented group‘ in the parade — a real step up from the previous year’s award of ‚The best tai chi group‘ (actually, the only). Following the parade we volunteer in shifts throughout the day to help clear tables as people enjoy the food sold by vendors. All proceeds from all participating merchants are donated to our hospital and we are happy to help out. With a parade, a demo with balloons and flags attached, as well as a chance to help out in our community what better way is there to practice Taoist Tai Chi® arts to promote our aims and objectives and enjoy a summer day together!
New beginner classes will be offered at the Queen Charlotte Community Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm, starting February 10th, and on Saturday mornings from 9am to 11am, starting February 13th. In Tlell, a new beginner class will be held at the Tlell Fire Hall, and will run on Tuesdays from 7pm to 9pm starting February 9th. Everyone is welcome to attend!
