The Dragon's Head Blog: Cabaret Fundraiser in Toronto, Canada

On Saturday, March 10th the Etobicoke location of the Toronto branch was once again transformed into a cabaret, as dozens of Toronto participants and their guests poured into the Florida-themed space.

From the pink flamingos on the “beach” out front to the mini palm trees on each candle-lit table, the mood was set for a festive night of entertainment by 15 of our own very talented participants.

After the tables were served with wine and cheese, the lights dimmed and music filled the practice hall.  And what a variety!

From the exotic sound of klezmer violin over didgeridoo to a lyrical opera aria … from folk ballads to stompin’ percussion … from violin and washboard trio to raucous rock ’n roll (inspiring some dancing around the perimeter). This time around we had not one, but two stand-up comics. We mellowed out with some ethereal electronic compositions, and sang along with our favourite smooth jazz guitarist.

This fourth annual cabaret was a fundraising initiative in support of the Fenway project, and was pulled together due to the cooperation of all of the locations in planning, decorating, coordinating musicians, MC’ing, sound-checking, ticket collecting, as well as serving of wine and cheese. And of course … cleaning up.
