The Dragon's Head Blog: Double Dose of Dragon Dancing

This past weekend participants from the Bathurst location of the Toronto branch danced the dragon for the first time … and for two events on the same day.  Saturday morning saw the 10-person dragon wend its way from the venerable Bathurst location through the surrounding residential area to appear at the Wychwood Barns Farmers’ Market where we delighted children and adults alike with our dancing while others performed sets of Taoist Tai Chi™ arts.

After taking pictures with children, we returned to our location.  There we replenished and cooled down from the blistering sun as we prepared to further raise our profile at an event in the afternoon.

In the afternoon we attended for the first time the Big on Bloor Festival of Arts and Culture.  We paraded the dragon along the entire route of the festival venue furthering our organization’s objective of cultural exchange, here in the most multicultural city in the world.

Besides raising our profile in the community, promenading the dragon expresses that same feeling of openness and expansion we are encouraged to feel when performing the set.

After returning the dragon to its temporary lair before it made its way back to its home at the International Centre, near Orangeville, we then spent time at our booth where we demonstrated the set, taught curious passersby a couple of moves and answered questions about Taoist Tai Chi™ arts.

A number of us returned for the second day of the festival to continue to get the word out on the street about us and what we can do.

We are grateful for the participation from others in the Toronto branch who helped train and make the dragon dance with us at these two events.  We look forward to dancing the dragon again next month at International Awareness Day.  It’s a lot of fun animating a dragon.  Come to Toronto and join in the fun!
