The Dragon's Head Blog: Art Gala Social and Fundraiser in Portland, Oregon

A room overflowing with original paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, quilts, hand weaving, jewelry and a splendid donated collection of Chinese guardian lions greeted those who attended the art gala.  Participants and their guests enjoyed gourmet foods and wine while viewing and bidding on the art donated by members. The art inspired lively conversation and the silent auction sparked some friendly competition.  In addition to being a great social event for the branch the gala raised over $6,500 for the society.

The relaxed atmosphere of the event was made possible by lots of volunteer hours.  For several weeks prior to the event volunteers sorted the donated works, set opening bids for all items and planned the menu.  After the last class ended Saturday afternoon a talented crew swept in to set up the displays and do the final food preparation before the guests arrived.  When the event ended volunteers again jumped into action to tear down the displays and prepare the branch for the next day’s activities.
